after high terrain follows the beach if we get lucky....

leaving Latacunga, where you can see a competitors MD11 with engine troubles being repaired (the mechanics have to carry up all tools and replacement parts working on a wind-shaken platform!), we usually fly out to bogota and if we are lucky we get a nice layover at the beach in Puerto Rico/Aguadilla to warm up again after the mountainous and usually cold stay in Quito.
that's a total contrast in colour, humidity and lifestyle.  the sea north of Puerto Rico is very deep, the Puerto Rico Trench reaches a depth of 9200m and is 800 km long. its an area of constant light rumblings and underwater quakes and landslides. fortunatly on the beach you don't feel much of all that, except that the watertemperature is a bit colder than in cuba or dominican republic.
