ice skating...

i am slowly recovering from my data destaster and the process of sorting 35.000 pictures is slowly progressing...

in the meantime i am home and enjoying the cold weather with thick ice on the lakes in austria giving the optimal opportunity for ice skating.
the neusiedler see is very beautiful and impressivly large to do that!

here are some impressions from yesterday:

data desaster!

last week i had a data desaster since my internal secondary ssd for all pictures broke down.
i replaced it and went on in best mood to reinstall the files from external backup when real desaster stroke and the backup was not recognized by my mac!
so i went with a data recovery software over the backup and after days of computing i am glad 99% could be recovered!
really bad is that  the folder structure was lost and i have to sort out 25000 pictures again!
getting to work, will take a few moments...

busy during high season...

the work is keeping me busy and with the company still in lack of pilots after last years match about the collective work agreement there is enough flying for everybody now...

in a cycle of sleeping and flying i don't find too much time to think, sort pictures and post a lot here, trying to improve a bit on the frequency of posts..

here just a short one from Xiamen/China,
i found a funny little self service library i wanted to show and some guerilla-gardening in the concrete desert of the streets...

Amman, Jordan

another stop in Amman, good weather and we took the opportunity to visit the historic site of Jarash. even though just a little part of it is unearthed and the bigger part still being burried below the modern village on top, it was an impressive view!

Jordan might at the moment be one of the most underrated tourist destinations, and I would suggest to visit it soon, since at the moment people are open, friendly, very moderately religious, meaning that it still is fun to visit the country also for women.
and there is a lot to see historicly, like Jarash, the Dead Sea, Petra or Wadi Rum...
it is like the pearl of the Middle East!

Africa...

the area i am tring to avoid is Africa...
of all areas around the world we are flying to, it is the poorest, with the highest welth gap standing between myself and the people surrounding me on the streets. it just feels uncomfortable and sometimes even dangerous.
trying to avoid it....
to make it clear, i am only talking about larger cities on the continent where we fly to, the countryside is a total different case!

Pictures Hong Kong....

the blog saw a bit of a break, since i was really worked off, tired and in desperate need of vacation, which i spent at the wedding celebration of a good friend and a week at mykonos, which is easy to reach without too long flying and nice and warm at the time of the year.
now fresh and recovered, i am out again to fly and picture the world.

Mykonos, Greecs, the gate to infinity:

Beginning of the week brought a long nightflight departing Luxembourg at sunset and flying with threeman-crew via Almaty to Hongkong.

While Lux was cloudy with some drizzle (i never thought somewhere in the center of Europe the weather could be as bad as in Lux until i startet working there), we were lucky on the trip with sunshine at Almaty in the morning and some clear air at Hong Kong, which is rather rare!
You can see the new airport with the brand new bridge spanning towards Macau, the city with the good visible stretch of the famous old Kai Tak airport, closed 1998, and the cramped city.
enjoy!

and after landing on the ILS 25L i walked out for an hour to compensate after the long flight, enjoying samo street photography to relax. there is always somthing to find at Hong Kong, people, street art installations strange food and pharmacy shops and much more!

ps. :
yes, sometimes flyng a 747 can be a feeling like surfing when you break swinging left/right high/low and changing speeds through a bunch of clouds, surfing them down to earth again in close contact but without touching, hence without turbulence - feels great, is fun, will definitly do that again!
